BALTREL Working Program The need for continued dialogue in the Baltic Sea Region on how to develop further the electricity markets, expand regional markets and integrate them into larger European markets exists and its importance is increasing. The exchange of information between involved parties plays very important role in this process. Baltrel has facilitated a lot to this exchange of information during the last several years. Its aptitude to being helpful for these purposes has been proven for sure and has not been exhausted so far. Therefore the continuation of Baltrel activities can be viewed as a necessary course of action in order to speed up the advance towards the common Baltic electricity market. The previous 10 years of activity of Baltrel has resulted in deep analyses of feasibility of creation a single electricity market around Baltic Sea. Major studies, Baltic Ring Studies Phase I and Phase II, financially supported by the EU were carried out. There was also a joint study with Baltic Gas, named Gas and Electricity in the Baltic Sea Region. The problems and obstacles of market and technical cooperation have been identified and the ways how to overcome them as well. According to the opinion expressed at the Vilnius meeting, we would like to concentrate our efforts in organizing in the year 2008 a seminar with the participation of the leaders of Baltrel companies and outside experts to discuss current and future important issues.
