BALTREL, which is involved in the development of the electricity market in the Baltic Sea region, met in Helsinki
The positions of Chairman and Secretary General went to Fortum in Finland

 

BALTREL – the Baltic Ring Electricity Co-operation Committee – is a collaborative organisation for electricity companies in the Baltic Sea region. The organisation held its annual meeting in Helsinki on 9 September. Mr. Tapio Kuula, President,  Fortum Power and Heat was elected as the new chairman for the next three-year period. Mr. Seppo Aho, Vice President, Fortum Power and Heat was elected as Secretary General. BALTREL’s departing chairman, Mr. Carl-Erik Nyquist was the former CEO of  Vattenfall, and Secretary General Mr. Arne Mogren also works for Vattenfall in Sweden.

BALTREL has a committee which meets twice a year and two networks of experts comprising representatives from the various companies. One network focuses on issues relating to electricity system integration and the other on market and supply.

BALTREL was founded in 1998 as a collaborative organisation for electricity companies in the Baltic Sea region. The organisation currently comprises 18 member companies in 11 countries: Estonia, Finland, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Germany and Belorussia.
